I'm traveling outside of the main tourist loop right now, in the Kurdistan area, and I'm having a lot of trouble finding wifi (this is posted from a phone!). I'm staying in budget accommodations, none of which have wifi, and I checked a couple of cafenets, but they didn't have wifi for me to use. I've found a couple of cafes with wifi but it was so slow, I couldn't do anything.

Ideas as to places one could find wifi? I'll be in Khorramabad and Shushtar next, I think. Cheers!

Unless you desperately need wifi for work or something, you could always just try and relax and enjoy your holiday without worrying about the interwebz.

I assure you I am perfectly capable of relaxing and enjoying my travels with and without internets, but sometimes people have more important things to do online than check email. Thank you for your life advice.

Perhaps you could try a 3G or 4G sim card instead of wifi. They too don't always have coverage but they are often my last resort while travelling around the country. You could purchase one at a government representative office (daftar-e-pishkhan -e dowlat) which are found in every city. Try asking the couchsurfing community in that area for help if you can't get a sim card in your own name.

It's not really life advice, more just travelling in Iran advice. We gave up with the internet altogether in Iran after wasting time in several different cities. It made our trip more relaxing. But, as you say, you have something very important to do, so you should perhaps do as lordi suggested.

I'd used wifi, where available. It was very slow though and I found many sites blocked or inaccessible.
I was recommended to buy a local sim that was inexpensive and more efficient (which I didn't need and didn't buy).

In Shushtar I stayed one night at a budget hotel upstairs in Sherafat boulevard not far from the roundabout, then moved to the Shushtar traditional hotel. Both places had very good wifi.

if you have a smartphone, you could turn on the tethering feature

Thank you for the help everyone! I was trying to avoid tethering my phone as my phone was infected by some malware during one stay, and I haven't had a chance to backup and reset it yet. I didn't feel safe doing banking things on it.

But, I found the hotel that rafiki mentioned near the roundabout in Shushtar, and they did indeed have wifi! Cheers everyone :)
