Two questions:

1) Does anyone know how I can watch the Rugby World Cup final on Saturday (Shambe).

2) If I find a way, is there anyone who'd like to watch it with me? If you dont know anything about rugby, I can explain as we go along!

I'm a Farsi student from the UK, currently living in Amol, and I'm planning to travel to Tehran and watch the game live. It should be on ITV, Sky Sports, maybe Star Sports, but we cant get any of them on hotbird :-(

I'm guessing that there'll will either be an iranian rugby club (they pop up in the weirdest places), or a group of expats who'll have a way to watch it. Maybe the UK embassy or British school? International hotels?

Grateful for any information,

Tom.

hi Tom,

I am sorry to tell you this but I do not think you will find a single home in Tehran which has ITV, Sky Sports or other premium/paid satellite TV channels you have mentioned above, because homes here mostly receive 'hotbird' channels while there are those (a few that is) which do have access to additional Turkish and Arabic channels (through ArabSat & TurkSat.). So as far as I can tell your best bet would be to contact the UK embassy or the British School (what is that?) to see if they would let you in to watch the game if one of those broadcasting channels listed is available/captured by their 'special' satellite dishes! FORGET ABOUT the so-called "international hotels" you are wondering about. They wont have the game. im pretty sure about it. It would not hurt however if you could call, for example, the Australian or NZ embassies to see if there is a chance for you to watch the game there. Good luck.

I went to the Abassi in Esfahan, figuring one of the most expensive hotels in Iran would be my best bet to view American football's Super Bowl.

They had never heard of it.

Just in case anyone else is watching this thread:

I've discovered that you CAN get the game on hotbird. It's on TV5 at 2000 GMT, 2230 Tehran time.

Also, it turns out there is an Iranian rugby federation, they practice at Azadi sports complex in North Tehran, pitch 4!

UK embassy arent showing it, thanks Amir for suggesting Auz/NZ/SA. I havent tried them, but if anyone else is traveling and wants to try them, their phone numbers are below.

Enjoy the game!

Tom.

Auz Embassy: 021 887 24456
NZ Embassy: 021 228 00289
SA Embassy: 021 270 2866-9
