I'm off to Iran next week and wanted to take some books with me to give to a teacher I'm going to be staying with. As the books would be quite politically sensitive, I'm a bit worried about luggage searches. From what I've heard land borders are OK, but I'm wondering what people's experiences were at Iran's airports? (namely IKA) Was your luggage searched? Were any items confiscated or did you get any trouble because of it?

You'll be disappointed in how little interest the customs guards will show in your lugguage.
Just don't bring porn or alcohol.

Hi!
Why do you think that you will be searched? Who has told you that?
You will be absolutely fine.

Nobody ever searched our luggage in Iran.

Thanks everyone. I guess cos if a book is banned in Iran, you'd expect them to be making sure it's not getting in there somehow... but good to hear I shouldn't have any problems. Cheers!

I'll never forget them confiscating my toothpaste, brush and flashlight in Bandar Abbas on my first trip to Iran.

Never had a problem since though. :-)

Books will be fine so long as its not "The Satanic Versus" (Salman Rushdie) or similar.
