We are planning to go to Iran in Oct. and are choosing between two group trips. They both go to Tehran, Mashad, Yazd, Shiraz, and Esfahan. One also goes to Kerman (Rayen, Mahan) and the Caspian; the other goes to Hamadan, Kermanshah, Zanjan, and Tabriz.

Can anyone give us any information about these areas to help us decide which trip to choose?

The companies are Geographic Expeditions and Distant Horizons and both are liked by the people who have traveled with them.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
First of all, do me a favor and if you can send me links to those 2 companies you have mentioned.
Second, since everyone is going to to Tehran, Mashad, Yazd, Shiraz, and Esfahan I think thr addition of Kerman and the Caspian region will fit your 'route' (itinerary) better. Tabriz and Kermanshah are quite far from Tehran and maybe very cool already that time of the year.

Third, I am always curious to see how much greedy-- and not-so greedy -- travel agencies tend to charge American tourists for tours to Iran! So if you dont mind I am eager to know how much they are asking for and for how many days. And does it include the airfare? Take care.Bye for now.

hi, I recently had to make a similar choice - going on a tour of the main areas you mention in october and then have a week to do my own thing. I was also tossing up between kerman and caspian. I chose kerman for two reasons - firstly the things to see. mahan, rayen, bam and kerman town and the kaluts sounded evry interesting, secondly it seemed to me that the weather in the Caspain at that time might be rather cold and rainy

I spent a few months in the Caspian region and wouldnt reccomend it. There is some nice scenery but nothing particularly interesting. The weather would be beautiful though, not sure where the second poster got her information from.

I think Tabriz, Hammedan and Kermanshah would be far more interesting. Have a look through your guidebook and you'll see why :-)

I agree with the previous comment. Both routes sound very nice but it get a bit cold in Azarbijan (Tabriz) and around the Caspian sea is a bit windy and stormy in that season. The best time to go to those two regions is middle of summer.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment and have a good trip. I wish I would have gone too.

I think recreational trips is something common for the non-Iranian travelers so they travel to Iran mostly to visit the culture, history and sites. So if the case is the same for you choose Kermanshah, Hamedan, Tabriz and Zanjan.
The weather will be a bit cold but the direction and the sites deserves visiting.
