Hi,
I am thinking of spending the next New year, or NOROOZ, in Iran. Plan to spend four weeks in the country.
Is this a good time to visit there? Are lots of places of interest for tourists closed during that period?
All tips, or comments, are most welcome to help make my trip a memorable one

As far as I know, no it isn't! I haven't been there during it, but I was there shortly after and from what I heard nearly every hotel room is booked out (by the locals), transport is hard to take as it's all booked out, and nothing is open.

Yes I think so! Maybe someone else can shed a more positive light on the scenario in regards to recent years, but I think Iran nearly closes down.
Go after Noruz - it's warmer anyway afterwards as March can still be quite chilly. But things do get more expensive as well. Either way, no point going during Noru unless you have friends or relatives there - it's impossible to find accommodation or book coaches.

yes. I agree with No1 & 3. If you can, come mid-late April. It is muh warmer and days are gettign longer too. In my opinion, you may still come during Norooz Period and have a good time but you must plan well in advance especially if you will have no friends to stay with. Bye.
In No Ruz places like Esfahan, Shiraz and Yazd are very crowded. Tabriz is fine, but I don't know how easy it would be to get a hotel. If you come a week after No Ruz finishes, that would be a good time to come.
Although Norouz is the most crowded duration due to the Iranians' travelling which may be equal to the lack of facilities, the attempts in the bazaars and markets, cleaning everything, and all in all the atmosphere of the coming New Year and the other Iranian customs is a great highlight.
If you can come later, your travel will be easier but evenif you come before and during norouz you will have alot to visit.
I was in Tehran and Mazandaran during Noruz this year, and it is not a good time to travel.
Firstly, most hotels and hostels are booked out.
Secondly, most bus, train and plane tickets are sold out months in advance.
Finally, a LOT of places are closed.
Unless you're there to visit Iranian friends (who might well be away for the whole period visiting their families) I wouldnt reccomend it!

i would say go during no ruz. i spoke to some iranians abt the best time to travel and they say that during no ruz its the most festive time even more than eid , the muslim celebration. it will be a different experience i am sure.
the only problem you will have is transport i think and accomdation will be slightly higher but i think its worth it
