Hi there!
I plan to fly to Tehran in October and get a VOA at the airport, for 15 days stay.
I wonder if it is reliable to get that kind of visa, and if I should have an pre-authorisation code.
I read at other threads that you need that code to get visas at home country, but is it necessary for VOA?
Also, the return ticket (I plan to have one), or hotel bookings are important to have booked and bring printed reservations in advance?
It is mentioned at some threads that some travelers got a VOA with just an one way ticket - then if so, must be a bit relaxed situation? Although the thortree basic thread at the top is not all good news.
(My passport is Greek)
many thanks, looking forward to hear some experiences and recommendations!
Nikolas
Hi Nikos
Are you Nikos Vertis??? ; )
I had a Greek clients some months ago, one of them applied for her visa in Greek and the other one who had been in Iran before, applied for visa on Arrival in IKA.
Although it is a little bit risky, but it is easy way to do.
Just apply for your Authorization code, to be more in safer side. When you are applying for it, it will ask where do you want to collect your visa, then you will mention IKA.
You don't need to show any hotel booking or stuff like that. But you may as well to do it, if you want to stay in comfortable and nice hotels that you want to choice, otherwise, sometimes the nice hotels or hustles get full. But at least know some hotels name in different cities, just if they ask, you can give them the names, that you are going to stay at these places.
Anyway, if you need any help, regarding booking or stuff like that, I will be happy to help you.

www.RialConverter.com (To have an idea about exchange rates in Iran, just check it before coming to Iran, and by the way, there is exchange office in the airport, after leaving all the security sections, in the highest floor)(The best place to change money is Ferdosi square + street in center of Tehran).
I forget to tell you, that I love Nikos Vertis songs, "Thelo na me nioseis" , he is my favorite singer and his this song is my favorite song.

hi, thanks for all the info!
well, I'm not Vertis, sorry! He is well known here
Why you say it's a bit risky, do they refuse entry?
and please, is there a website if you know to apply?
I tried the official government website but the link for VOA doesn't work
Hi
I always say, what if??? That is the reason that I say it is a little bit risky. But lots of ppl, get visa on arrival these days. But if you have authorization code, you will have more chances to get it.
On Lonely Planet book that I have:
It suggests:
Iranianvisa.com
Touranzamin.com
Pasargad-tours.com
Do your own research to see which one is the best? And then I will be happy if you let me know the result as well.
Thanks

also, if anybody has some idea if it is obligatory to have special travel insurance for Iran, please do post about that!
Do they check before granting the VOA?
maybe costs a lot if you have to buy it on the spot at the airport?
all these rules make it so complicated to just travel there
Hi again
I just whatsapp from my previous clients, to ask them to see if it was obligatory for them or not. But as I know, it is not, and if it is, it will cost around 10-20 Dollars.
And don't worry, it is not that complicated, Iran is opening to world. Thousands of tourists come to Iran every week, or maybe every day.
I think the winner is the person who visit Iran right now. Before it gets full of tourists. ; )
I will let you know, again once I get a news from my clients.

thanks for the extra info!
I think I have some standard insurance from my home country (Greece) but if they demand to show proof of insurance, I should bring copies of the certificate etc...
probably everything is doable, just the information is not somewhere easy to be found, maybe some traveller could arrive at the airport and find out new problems last minute and it is frustrating
thankfully other people like you give the extra helpful tips!
Your welcome
My clients they told me: their insurance was included on their airplane ticket. And so far they needed insurance for getting visa but their arrival, they didn't ask for it. ; ).
And they other one said: they didn't have insurance.
But if you ask me, how an insurance. It is better than nothing. It will not cost you that much.

There is always a small risk of rejection when applying fora VOA in any country. I think if you choose this option, without an authorisation number, you should show a hotel booking (or at least know that name of a hotel that you can pretend to have a booking there).
If you decide to apply for an authorisation number, read firstly through this thread, working from the last page backwards:
For what it's worth, I have used TZ twice and I was very happy with the service. As a European you should be able to make the payment for the service as a simple bank transfer rather than using a payment agency such as Skrill/Moneybookers as the intermediary.
I tried the official government website but the link for VOA doesn't work
That website has been dead for years. Someone should just close it down.
