Given the bad political situation between Iran and America at this time, is it too much of a trouble for Iranian tour agencies to accept Americans?

I emailed some Iranian tour agencies last year and the response was very active, but this year, they don't email back as much. I am guessing that if they bring in American customers, then their business will receive more scrutiny and possible trouble from the government.

I wish this political situation would end soon. I really want to visit Iran.

I know I can join a tour with an Americas based company that has contacts in Iran, but they tend to be very expensive, on scheduled dates, etc. I rather work with Iranians directly. Maybe that is the wrong way to go, for Americans, that is?

hi,
no, it is "not impractical" although i do not work for travel agency or in the travel industry in general! i know tours for Americans are really expensive and it makes no sense to me the way it is unless we are talking about greedy people on both sides (Iran & US) who are making it it big on the back of desperate tourists! take care.bye.

Last year, the Iranian government passed a bill that, "would pay travel agencys and tour companys double the normal commission if their passenger was an American"

It was supposed to be a way to attract American tourists to go see Iran

So, no I dont think the tour companys didn't email you back because you are American.

I think it is easier for you to just get your tour from a company in the States...

Maybe you could try one of the Iranian travel agencys in Los Angeles

We are an iranian travel agency located in shiraz.
As long as it matters to us there is just one limitation for american travellers and that would be travelling in tours.
Our government make it mandatory for american tourist to join tours.
That means a guide should be with you during your trip.
I will be more than happy if I can help you more.

US based tours are generally high quality and (while expensive compared to "backpacking" travel) are priced comparable to other quality international tours.

There is no reason to not try arranging a tour with any of several Iranian Travel Agencies. If one didn't respond, try some of the others.

It's the Foreign Ministry visa approval, that makes the absolute "Go - NoGo" decision. Once approved, we found NO hostility to us as individual people.

Yes, it is extremely unfortunate, we need as much international interaction as possible.
