Morning all,

I've just had a nightmare getting my visa renewed in Yazd, so I thought I'd tell you all how it's done and hopefully save someone the day I've had.

1) They do give renewals here with no fuss.

2i) You need to take two passport photos; your passport; photocopies of the info/photo page on your passport and the page with your visa and entry stamp/

2ii) You also need to have paid 100,000 rials (10USD) into an account at 'Bank Melli'. To do this, go to bank Melli (before 12pm is best, cloased all day friday), And tell them that you need to pay the money into0 account 'Siba', which has the number 2171155904004.

If you say 'baroye visa tamdid konam' they should know what you mean. If not, there's usually someone around who speaks english.

3) Then, and only then, you go to the Tourist Police office opposite Heydar Zadeh museum. That's off Imam Khmeini street, and very close to Alexander's prison and the Hotel Koshan.

The 2003 lonely planet, lists the renewals office as a biulding near the train station. This is now a tax office so dont waste your time there. Also, dont bother asking police officers or government officials for help. They'll help, but get it wrong. If you need help, somewhere like the Silk Road hostel might be your best bet.

Hope that helps,

Tom

Hey all, I just extended my tourist visa in Yazd. It was all very straightforward and took less than an hour in total.

First you have to go to the immigration office, here.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=yazd+maps&ll=31.845975,54.384706&spn=0.008348,0.01929&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&z=16

It's got a huge cream-brick wall running around it and is fairly easy to spot.
I drove myself but I think most taxi drivers know where it is.

You'll need to take your passport with a photocopy of the visa and photo pages as well as two passport photos.

You'll have a short interview, about two minutes asking why you want to stay, for how long and where you're from and they'll say yes or no.

Then you have to pay 300,000 Rials at Bank Meli (note: not Bank Mellat). You don't have to go to the central branch - there's one nearby - a little further out of town, just past on the roundabout on the left.

Take the receipt back to the immigration office and they finish up the extension. They told me to come back in an hour but I waited and it took them about fifteen minutes.

I also had to pay a 3000 Rial "processing fee" to them and then I was done.

Hope this is helpful!
