Howdy folks,
solo Asian-Canadian male planning to backpack Iran for a month in May, the plans are in the infancy stage yet but fist burning question that needed answers.
Visa - I found the Iranian website in Ottawa, I guess it pretty straight forward print the form fill it out, money order, picture and post it and wait a month for the visa. what do you put under, "how much money do you intend to bring in?"
and lastly some testimonials would be reassuring

As for ur case,I have rarely seen a Canadian being successful to get Iranian Visa easily......

Getting a guided tour may be the only way a Canadian can visit Iran these days but I am sure there are exceptions.

I got my visa in Istanbul in September no problem.
Just get your invitation from www.key2persia.com (you can ask to pay when you are in Shiraz instead of doing a complicated and expensive money transfer), wait 10 days for the reference number, go to the embassy, fill out a form, give them some pictures and photcopies, go pay 45 euros across the street, and pick up your visa the next day. Very Easy.
I care see it being a nightmare going through the embassy in Ottawa ;)

"How much money?" -- like every other application question, should simply be a bland generic answer: enough to get approval, without raising any questions. (Maybe figure $50/day, or some such???). Unless you make it difficult, nobody will check your stash. (You should also have a departure-ticket, and/or believable generic travel plan.)

I know 5 Canadians who have been to Iran and have gotten the Visa very easily.
If possible, just go to the Iranian embassy in Ottawa. Im sure you will get the visa.

I just got back from Iran 3 weeks ago. I got the Visa in Ottawa in about two weeks - super easy and no hassle, I wasn't part of an organised tour or anything. I just made up a lowball figure for how much money I was going to bring, and they didn't seem to care.Had a great time over there, hope you do too.

Since I'm Danish I can't say, if you'll get your visa easily or not. However I can tell you that the question concerning the money is no problem at all. For a 12 day visit I simply stated 1000 dollars, although I had no idea how much I wanted to bring. I brought a bit more, but nobody cared.
