In order to obtain a Visa for Iran, do you have to visit the London embassy or can you obtain a visa by post?
And what's the best way to get a visa authorisation code?

If you apply in London, you need to attend in person, according to the embassy website:
Have you read this thread, which is a sticky at the top of the Iran branch? Because it is so long, I suggest you work backwards from the last page.
