Answers:

  1. You can't get a visa directly from the Iranian Embassy. If you apply directly, they'll just send you a list of travel agents in the UK (all Iranian) who can apply on your behalf. Twice I've used Arya Travel in London. It cost £120 (including the £60 visa fee) and took about 10 days. Also used them for flights.

  2. You should be able to get a multiple-entry visa without problems.

Hi.

Mitch says, :"You should be able to get a multiple-entry visa without problems." Is this really true? as far as I know Iran Foreign Ministry does not issue multiple-entry visa to international travelers.

I do not think you need an Iranian travel agency in order to secure visa. You may find many other UK tourist to Iran on this forum who got visa on their own although it is true that many choose to go through a travel agency boost their chance of success. Bye.

I tried to get my Iranian visa in London but if I remember correctly it was too difficult and too expensive. I received my visa in Istanbul in one day (with authorization code).

hello,
We decided to try our luck ourselves at the Iranian Embassy in London today.
It's been a good experience so far - submitted papers (application form downloaded from website, copy of passport, 2 passport-size photos) for processing. Paid GBP 80 for British passport and GBP 13 for Malaysian passport.
We are to go back in 2 weeks' time to see if our application has been approved. If it is approved, have to leave our passports at embassy for 2-3 days to get visa processed. Was no problem at all, very friendly and efficient service. Fingers crossed we get our visas!!

Hello,
I did the same as poster number 5. My application (British passport) was rejected after 4 weeks. When I applied i asked and the people at the consulate didn't say it would be a problem, but they did remind that I wouldn't get my visa fee back if it were to be rejected. Phoning up each day to find out if it was ready (only meant to take 2-3 weeks) I got to know the woman on the other end of the line. She seemed pretty sorry that it had been rejected, so that was some consolation.

I was planning to travel overland to India, but now I'll have to get a flight from Istanbul to Tehran, and get my 7 day visa-on-arrival. It seems silly that even if you are denied a visa, you can still just rock up and get one. And it's making me take a boring, sterile yet dirty flight instead of the train.

Humph!

hello ed
not sure if this is too late, but my fiance's visa application was rejected the first time but we tried again a second time through iranianvisa.com, and it was approved. however we had difficulties receiving the approval code in London, and have made arrangements to pick it up from Istanbul. we are now in Istanbul and hoping to get visa sorted on Monday. fingers crossed!!

post 8: you are right, can't get the visa at the airport. i ended up just flying to india in the end as i couldn't wait to go through iranianvisa.com sadly, but the personin the embassy said if i did this there'd probably be no probs. next place i need to try and get to without a plane: japan, via pakistan china and tibet. should be a it easier...
