Last week I sent in my application form for a 7 day tourist visa (Australian citizen) to the Iran embassy in Canberra.

There is no mention on the Iran embassy website or the application form --- that an authorization from the Iran MFA is required and I did not include or apply for such a reference number.

I am still not sure infact.

Now I am worried. Will it be rejected?

I have 6 weeks until departure.

I know that the Iran Embassy in Canberra is notoriusly difficult to contact.

But it is so many mixed reports on here about what they will do.

It is a pretty diabolical situation!!!

No you don't need a code to apply in canberra, the reason they say it can take a month or 6 weeks is that the embassy has to apply for your code themselves. As soon as they get it it takes a matter of days to send your passport/visa to you. The website says allow 6 weeks so theoretically at least you are in the time frame. Hopefully it takes less. If you are desperate to get your passport and haven't heard anything, then word on this message board is that a bunch of nationalities (inc Aussies) can get a 15 day visa on arrival at a few Iran airports (ie, Tehran, Shiraz,e tc). So if you don't get your visa in time but you can get your passport back then that should be an option.

In fact someone posted a similar story a month or so ago, about how they didn't get their visa in time so got their passport back, then flew to Iran and got the visa on arrival no problems, try searching for it if possible.

Hi Donna,

" It is a pretty diabolical situation!" Why, may i ask?

Before applying for visa You SHOULD ALWAYS READ what LP members like me constantly post -- or have posted in the past -- on this very web site! You will receive a 2-week visa on the spot at the IK Airport. that is it. UNLESS you are planning to enter Iran by crossing borders. Let me know if you need more help. Good luck.Bye.
