I am an Iranian American, with both Iran and USA passport. For me to visit Iran, should I go on Iran or USA passport.
I would like to avoid any tours (see country on my own)
Are there any hassles for Americans visiting on Iranian passport?
Many thanks for the answers!

The only option for an American is with a tour.
As you have another passport, use it.

Hiya!
How would they understand you have American citizenship if you only use the Iranian passport?
Use your Iranian passport and do not mention the American one.
Good luck!

Hi there. What people normally do is that they travel with both passports, exit U.S. using the American one and enter Iran using the Iranian one. Same goes on the way back. It looks like there's some unwritten understanding between the two countries on this particular issue.
Still, you better check with other Iranian Americans who have recently traveled in and out of Iran.
Good luck.

OP -- how old are you, and are you eligible for military service? Because that could be an issue for your if you enter the country while travelling as an Iranian:
Men reaching 19 years old who are not granted exemption from the military service are not able to apply for a driving license, passport, or leave the country without special permission.

Once Iranian always Iranian, you have to travel to Iran on your Iranian passport. As Emmef said there is the military service consideration for men of a certain age.
