Hi all,
I am a refugee lawyer and I am going to Iran this summer to do some field research on LGBT persecution in Iran. It's pretty hard for me to actually talk to lawyers/judges on the adjudicating process under the Islamic Sharia law. Therefore, I thought it might be better for me to talk to local gay Iranians and get to know their life. Oftentimes, individual stories are way more compelling and interesting than the grand picture.
However, I also understand because of the persecution LGBT members face in Iran, most of them are not willing to publicly identify themselves as LGBT members. Therefore, does anyone have any experience in meeting them? You know, for a cup of coffee or something. I don't really want to use Grindr or any other "hook up" apps because I really don't think that's the best way to conduct my research. Also, it might put myself in danger if I am on Grindr or any other online apps.
Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks a lot!
