Hi all,

for the people that have recently been to Iran, I would like to know how many euros I should take for my October's trip, ¿1000€, 2000€, more (hope not)?

I have no idea how prices are, hope to get the new LP guide before going.

Thanks in advance for your help and greets.

I think the OP needs to know prices with which to build up a budget. I can't help, but, at the moment, neither can anyone else, as we don't know
> what he wants to do in Iran (expensive activities or quiet days wandering)
> where he wants to stay - western style luxury hotels, cheap hotels, hostels, with friends...
> how he intends to travel - flying between places, 3rd class buses...

and so on.

Give us some clues!

Martin

hi,
I think 1000 euros is more than enough if you dont intend to be a big spender or stay at 5-star hotels! Bye.

Hi , 1000 to 1200 euro can be good middle bojed and If you are interested in any of the following, please don't hesitate to contact me!

  • Historical places around Kerman, Mahan, Bam, Maymand (Rock village) etc, as well as arranging excursions to other cities such as Esfahanm Shiraz, Yazd, etc.

  • Cultural tours to mosques, bathhouses, teahouses, bazars & see traditional Iranian sport (zurkhaneh, see LP Iran page 45)

  • Overnight desert trips to Dasht-e-Lut to see the kaluts (great natural sand castles), the possibility to meet nomads and stay with them in their tents.

  • Ride on camels and horseback through the majestic desert of Kerman & sport tours for mountain climbing.

Furthermore, I can arrange almost everytthing, ranging from accomodation for all budgets, transport, help with extending your visa, etc. etc.

You can contact me via email or private message. Also, I am listed in the Lonely Planet of Iran on page 284.

Kind regards,

Hossein Vatani

Hi again,

yeah, I knew I had to be more specific as soon as I posted this thread, :-)))

Well, mostly I would never go to luxury hotels, I usually go to hostels and maybe some cheap hotels sometimes, I would also like to stay in a mousharkadef or however it is written...

I like wandering and exploring the country and, depending of the place, maybe getting some activity, like a desert trip or guiding for trekking in mountains or visiting a place that is better to go with a someone who knows, but not the whole time in activities with operators, mostly independent.

Of course, I travel by land always that I can, buses, trains, whatever, depending on time or so, maybe I could take one internal flight to Teheran in case I am lack of time, but normally I plan quite well overland.

I hope that you can tell me something more with this indications.

Thanks a lot for your help and greetings,

Iker

Hi depends how long u r staying. The average meal will cost u between 5-10 euros in decent restaurants. Public transport specially if u use shared taxis or buses between towns are very cheap. Air fare can be expensive ie Tehran -shiraz return is approx 60 euros.
Getting in to sites is not bad compared to european standards. Top hotels will cost u up to 60 euros per night but if u stay in hostels u can get away with probably 1/4 of that or 1/3.

Hope u enjoy u r time there.

Thanks boyracer, I will follow your advice, any special recommendations when carrying so much money? When travelling, maybe divide it in a couple or three places necessary? Safe to leave most of it in a hotel while in a place?

Greets.

Hi,
I was in Iran in April for 3 weeks travelling alone and it cost me about $65 US a day. Mid range hotels cost about $20 to $35. Dinner $4 up to $7 in better restaurants and 4 star hotel buffets. Inter city buses $4 to $6. Inter city shared taxis shorter trips say 80km $2. Local taxis seem to settle on $2 a trip but cheaper in the North West. Car and driver hirer vary depending on road quality etc but say $22 for a good half day and $30 for a short day. A mini bus group tour to Persepolis cost $15. If you take a bit more than you think you don't have to worry about it running out and you can always buy a souvenir with the surplus.Things are easy to arrange and the people are great.
