I just came back from a trip through Iran and Iraq. We spent a day and a night in Persepolis, staying at Hotel Apadana.
I found out about Hotel Apadana from the latest version of the Lonely Planet Iran guide, but more recent information stated, that the Hotel is closed indefinitely. We decided to go anyway.
As of March 2017, the Hotel is open. According to the cook (very friendly guy, was working at that place already decades ago), the place reopened 9 months ago. He claimed, they are busy with tour groups on some days. But when we stayed there for one night, we were the only guests. Which was weird, but not creepy. The backyard is still a bit messy, and the pool is drained, but the Hotel itself must have been renovated recently. It's a bit more expensive, but I would say it's worth it. Rates for double rooms ranged from 2,2 Mio. Rials to 2,9 Mio. Rials (depending on the view), although we got the cheaper one for 2 Mio. and the view was just fine.
The Hotel is the last building on your left-hand side, before you reach the staircase up to Persepolis. It is past the ticket booths, which can be a bit confusing. But you will not need a ticket, to reach the Hotel. Tickets are checked just before you are entering the staircase to Persepolis.
