Hi Everyone,

I just called Imam-Khomeini Airport and was able to confirm that Iran had just begun issuing so-called '15-day-on-arrival-airport visa' for almost all nationalities with the exception of 10 countries! The countries excluded are Somalia, Jordan, Bangladesh, UK, US, Canada, Ireland and three more, which the rude and impatient clerk at IK Immigration Check went over very fast and hence I could not write down the name of all countries on the list! However, it seems like Australians are no longer 'blacklisted' and if you also happen to be a dual citizen who happen to be from US, Canada or UK you should be alright too, because you can always use your other passport. Needless to say I would have to call back to double check the info. and also to find out what countries on the list I missed. Good Luck. Bye.

Hi,

PS: I know for sure that either Australia or Ireland are on the 'blacklist' above but NOT BOTH!!! The rude airport clerk simply refused to go over the list again after i told him he had read it too quickly for me to write down all the countries' name!

HI - yes I can confirm this visa is open to Australians following my conversations with the Irainan Embassy here in Canberra.

This is a HUGE relief !!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Can I get a visa at the airport on arrival in Iran?

Some visitors can obtain a tourist visa, valid for 15 days, on arrival at certain Iranian airports.

Please note that neither UK nor US citizens can get a visa at the airport.

Citizens of the following countries can, under certain circumstances, get a visa on arrival at the airport:

Albania, Armenia Australia Austria Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, China, Columbia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Mongolia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Korea, Norway, Oman, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arabic Emirates, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yugoslavia.

Please note that this is a relatively new service offered by the airports in Iran. We would always recommend that visitors obtain a visa BEFORE they travel to Iran.

If you little time left before you intend to travel, we do not recommend that you rely on getting your visa at the airport. Instead, you should consider using an Iranian Visa Service who can arrange normally arrange visas at short notice.
