i am going to kish island on a holiday
can i (male) move around in shorts and shoes in public places?
i know kish is more liberal in lifestyle compared to tehran...but i would rather confirm it befor e going there
your tips much appreciated...bye
Even know your on Kish it is recommended that you do not. You will probably catch a few strange looks. Unless of course you are at the beach. I never saw anyone in town with shorts on. Unfortunate as this time of year is stinkin' hot here in the M.E...........................dreaming for October!

Everyone (it doesn’t important where s/he is from or what his/her religion is) who come to Iran has to obey the Islamic rules in our country.
Women:
Women have to hid or cover their hair by a scarf called “rusary” and also they should wear some thing to cover their body. In Iran it is called “manto” in any color they like in public places. If they want to go to holy shrines like Shahcheragh in Shiraz or Imam Reza in Meshhad , They have to wear chador “ a long scarf which covers all parts of body”.
Men:
Men can wear what ever they like except short trousers which are forbidden according to Islamic laws.
Yes, "go2iran" is completely correct. Sadly women have to cover up to the extentant that they cannot display any hair/skin or part of he body to the public. It's socially unexcepitble for Iranians. Sad really!

Shorts are for kids, in Iranian opinion. Even before the revolution, grown men didn't wear shorts in public.
That's exacly what I mean. It's sad Iran can't come to terms with what is exceptable with the rest of the world. I've worked there and have experinced what we would call....................... reperssion......... No freedom to experience friends and family together at the beach....................segrigated? ...............When will this stop? Would be great for families to have a barbaque on the beach in comfortable clothing considering the summer heat. Not possible as far as I saw. Maybe you can corrrect me?
