Did anyone happen to have visited Arg-e Bam recently? If so, please tell me whether the restoration work has progressed to such an extent to make a visit worthwhile.

Thank you for your update in advance.

I was there a year ago and it is worthwhile a visit to my opinion. You cannot go all the way up to the Governor's residence, but you can enter the stable area. What I heard is that Unesco didn't want all of Bam to be restored completely back to its state of before the earthquake

margotv,
Thank you for the update.

Hope that there has been some more progress since your last visit, but cannot understand UNESCO's rationale for its decision. I shall go there.

My pleasure. The rationale behind this decision would be that they want the impact of the earthquake to still be visible, as that, too, is part of the history. I visited Bam in 2011 and since then the restoration has definitely progressed. Even in 2011 I was impressed by the site, last year even more. Enjoy yourself!
