Looking to somehow get myself to Israel in early October of this year without taking a plane. Will likely take a cargo ship to Asia or Europe then maybe another boat from there or train and bus.

Any tips of figuring out the best itinerary, I am finding it confusing looking at all the different cargo ship options. I live near Vancouver Canada, but could travel to anywhere on the West coast of the US or travel over to the east coast of Canada or the US to catch a cargo ship.

Thanks

Europe to Israel is easy overland - www.seat61.com/Israel.htm

The question is how are you going to get back as Syria will refuse entry to anyone they suspect has been to Israel whether it's stamps (or lack thereof) in their passport, on their body or other possessions. Are you prepared to fly to at least Turkey if you have to?

As for Canada to Europe - the cheapest is probably a cruise, freighter travel can be quite expensive

Thanks.
I am aware of the visa situation. From Israel I will be travelling by bike onto Egypt. Do you know if it is possible to take a bike along on the land route? Bringing a bike is one reason why I rather have a boat journey as it is one less thing to think about as there are lots of connections to make on the land journey and each train and bus will have a different response to a traveller with a bike. I am sure it is possible but may add more hassle than I want.
