Hi

We're planning on going to Spitzbergen this summer hopefully to see icebergs and wonderful scenery (and maybe the occasional polar bear). Trips seem to go June, July and August but we can't figure out when is the best time to go. Also can't figure out if it's actually better to go to Alaska or Manitoba for scenery and wildlife during these months. Lots of conflicting info. Any advice?

Thanks

I spent July in Spitzbergen a few years ago. and it seemed like a fine time to go. Not all that much wind after We had crossed the Bearing Sea. Didn't see many icebergs but I've just gotten back from Antarctica so my judgement is probably a little coloured. They folk I went to Antarctica with were raving about Greenland being bigger and better than Spitzbergen. In terms of wildlife, there wasn't a huge amount to see, seals birds and a Walrus or two. We didn't see any polar bears. I would imagine that Alaska / Manitoba / Greenland are a little better.
