San Carlos Sonora Mexico-Disaster in the Making

Interest forums / Life on the Ocean

A post on this forum reminded me of something.

A respondent mentioned that 'the boatyard of fallen dreams' was in San Carlos Sonora-on the Mexican mainland opposite Baja Sur.

Seems it's the place where people from the USA realise that they know SFA about sailing/can't go any further after they've headed out to 'see the world' wash up/sell out.

Anyway for those with a fascination for the morbid this train wreck of a blog will be good for some laughs.

The boat in question-a 45ft ferro-has been bought in the same yard by as clueless an alcoholic ever to swill herself to sleep.

She's looking for crew too!

copperspoon-you are truly a piece of work. While you're still sitting in your armchair dreaming, our girl will be out making her dreams come true. You should really get an understanding of a person and their vision before you start your naysaying.
Thanks for the publicity though !!!!!!

Those people who truly contribute to life do so in an original way, with original thought and positive manner. Those who lack the imagination, motivation and foresight to do this; yet who still want to think they are doing the world a service, become critics. The easiest way toward the personal justification of what may appear to most as a wasted life, is to mindlessly attack those whose endeavours exceed your own by a wide margin.

Just as it is true to say that no film critic ever won an Oscar, it is true to say that no critic of any sort was ever awarded anything worthwhile by his peers. I guess the name 'Copperspoon' is an emotional response to the circumstances of your birth, and your malicious criticisms are a means for you to try to reign in those who, through pure personal grit, approximate the lifestyle of 'Silverspoons'.

Whether it is correct or not, your diatribe would suggest you are a rather sad, meek and pathetic fellow. Try to promote the positive and thus create a better impression of yourself.

Nice to see 'Dishy's Defenders' standing up on their strong hind legs!

Hear, hear Auzzee. You put that VERY well.
Spoon, I'm sure your comment was meant to be nasty, although I don't quite "get it". I'm sure there is some reference to the female of the canine species. But you better believe we will defend her and her dream to any small minded detractor.
I guess sinced the Bumfuzzles sucessfully returned to the Carib, all the wannabe sailors have to find someone new to pick on now.
That's SOOOOOOOOOOO sad.

Now, you will probably get me banned like you did her.
Small minded , indeed.

Hi! I thought that, I would out of courtesy, take a moment to copy you with my comments to the recipient of your above demotivational topic.

That comment can hold for all the boatyards in the world! Not just San Carlos. if you look around any boatyard you will see at least one so called "fallen dream" , lets face it, it is only a truly "fallen dream" if they let it be! Perhaps they might have just unknowingly changed direction in their life, but to some people it is a dream to just have enough food in their bellies and others to be as rich as Bill Gates! Its all relative, most of us will fall short at sometime in our life.

To some it might be a dream to live aboard (sorry, "do an extended cruise", the term live aboard not being too welcome anymore in the us marinas since it became a legal term?) and sail around the world in a concrete boat, they may fall short too and only get to the Galapagos before getting bored, or just across the bay single handed, or just sort the boat out and get her into the water, and sell her in her new sparkling colours of life, having lived in the beautiful San Carlos for a year/ where’s the failure in that? It’s merely a change in direction.
If you really want to do it? You will achieve exactly that with maybe varied amounts of hardship along the way.

Life is full of self effacing prophesy, if you say it enough you will start to believe it and it will happen! So if you say "I want to sail around the world", "I will sail around the world" enough (even if you have doubts) you will achieve it. "If you say I’m not sure that I can do it" (having read those comment made by others primarily for effect) guess what?

the choice is entirely yours, there is no shame in changing your goals in life of re evaluating your direction, which I believe one should be do anyway as a normal part of life, by all means read the detritus of failure and failures along the way but form your own opinions as to what exactly you wish to do and stand by them, until you change your mind and direction. Me, I never told anybody that I was giving up smoking and for five attempts I was unsuccessful, boy when I managed it and the first person said "I haven’t seen you smoking for a while" that really was payback for all my hassle and it felt real good.

Treat each phase of your desires and wishes as they come, steadily achieving them as others and maybe life throw logs down for you to trip over. Your doubts are only another log, the various comments are too. all laid down for you to trip over by those who maybe would never be able to achieve anything near what you have so far? let them pass over your head and search for the truth firstly in yourself, Do you really want to do it and secondly how you will achieve it with the facilities that you have now, having done that you move forward again and get started on achieving it.

"Concrete cancer" every building or concrete boat in the world has some of this somewhere in its fabric, its the nature of all materials to have some weakness, fibreglass has osmosis, steel has rust, wood has rot, humans have disease, don’t let the detractors put you off, if you really want to do it? Do it, if you don’t? Don’t. This aint a rehearsal this is the real thing, don’t waste time on something you don’t want to do, discard it and move on. Its only money. Wow! Don’t I go on! Boring old Fa*t, references taken from the Authors latest book,

”How to make friends and influence concrete boaters, not”

well! I own a boat yard of fallen dreams. or so people around me would like to think. I was the laughing stock that everybody took advantage of at my expense. but as 06 unfolded and the boat came into being, people of whom took great pleasure in my demize, are now paying the karmic price. one wind storm cost thousands, one earthwake that rolled the boat over and damaged the hull. and one flood that floated the hull out of the shop. other than that we are nearing completion, soon to be on the ocean perminently. I will miss all the negitive people of whom tried despertly to see me fail at all cost! now they drive by in shame. so build on get some paint on her, put her in the water and orb on.

two very small facts that seem to go unnoticed! first: a sailor, boat builder or any person that has tried to start or finish a vessel, does not or has not ever in my 30 years of knowing every attacted another soul trying to get a vessel wet.
second: I have only seen want-a- be sailors seting in one of those soft folding recliners with a BIG handle on the side, attact people of whom are trying to grow closer to mother earth by sailing toward the sea.
perhaps they some sexual connection with that BIG handle!

San Carlos, Senora, MX. and the area about 50 miles North is the best crusing ground in the Gulfo de California. How would I know? I base out of there. Been there more times than I can remember. I've been to Baja Sur and for desolute beauty it nice. But the San Carlos area is the place for a sailor. The best diving on the West coast of MX. If I end up at the marina as a old sea dog with a botle of rum and cement garbage scow for a boat I'd take that to a NY City Yacht Club berth any day!
