We are thinking of maybe taking a year off and sailing around Australia and the South Pacific but we have 2 dogs just wanting to know if anyone is sailing with animals and know if it is to hard - I know coming home will be a hassle into OZ but just wondering in other places....

would the size of the dog be a consideration?

would a cat be a better boat companion?

how about the sun, would it be difficult to keep the pooch from overheating?

it sounds like a lot of work and the dog might not like being cooped up all the time (assuming you spend a fair bit of time actually sailing)

a friend that used to run a dragger in Alaska always took his two labs with him. they liked it but there was quite a bit of room on that boat, they would slide down the ramp and swim to shore when returning the docks

they became experts in hanging on in rough weather (Bering Sea) and crapped on the net which worked out well because they were constantly being rinses on the tows.

i never was on a sail boat but they look kind of tight on space. plus the stink of dog pee might get aggravating after a while if a solution can't be worked out.

do the dogs a huge favor and leave them on land - my opinion only
