Has anyone actually achieved this one? We all know about the book Peter Moore wrote and fact it is the Indonesia - Aussie stretch that is the kicker but has anyone done this and lived to tell the tale?

I am considering doing this next year, perhaps taking a train all the way to Vietnam and then working down SE Asia and attempting the Indo Aussie stretch.

Any hints or tips?

There are no scheduled boats from indonesia to oz. A cruise boat sometimes calls in to Bali on the way to Australia.

Mate i'm interested in this aswell, i'm wanting to do this leg in december this year. I have done a bit of research and there is no permanent/reliable service. Pelni ships operate around indonesia on a fairly reliable but kind of infrequent service (about fortnightly from what i've found), but onwards to australia it looks like the best chance is simply finding a boat once you're there. And even then you could be waiting for weeks or longer for someone (and u don't know what they'll be like). If i find out anything more i'll let u know (and vice versa if u could).

I'm on this mission too - trying to get from London to Melbourne without boarding a plane (probably mid-09). Any info on getting Bali -> Darwin would be very welcome. If I find anything I'll post it here.

cheers

haha, I'm on with the same plan... maybe we can just arrange to be in Bali at the same time and hire a boat for all of us!

cools, seems like you guys got an entire crew... best time to enter australia is sometime sept-oct just before summer heat sets in when its bloody dry and itchy hot. bali is high times around april-oct, most of these boats cruised down from thailand where they spend their time nov-april...i reckon if you look in advance you will find a captain w a boat interested to do the same. :)) if anything, it would be the best time (aug-sept) for them to enter australia...

if im around there, i wanna join too!!!
