learning to sail?

Interest forums / Life on the Ocean

does anyone know of any good places to learn sailing in south east asia? if so, what are the costs involved and is there a way to work while you learn?

thank you all!

the best way, i think, i so to get a boat and do it. you can get a sailboat for 1000$us easily, even upwards to like 26 feet if you look around, they really aren't that expensive to buy. granted, you can spend a lot of money, huge amounts of it, but a good solid basic boat is inexpensive. then you just take it slow and learn at your own pace. baby steps include untying the ropes and using the outboard to motor out 50 feet and then motor back in and tie back up. after that maybe you want to motor out into a river or bay from where your boat is located, then put up a sail after reading a bit about sailing and just see how it goes. the best way to learn it is by doing it. if you know someone who sails they could teach you in 20 minutes what the basics are, it really isn't that hard to learn. 20 minutes to learn, a lifetime to master. but you don't have to be a master at it to sail, sailing is actually rather easy.

that's what i did ...
