Hi, anyone got any suggestions for relatively cheap cruises from Vancouver northwards? Cargo ships carrying passengers etc.? Thanks for any contribution. We'll be heading thataway in Sept.

No cargo carrying ships of any kind-it ain't gonna happen.

Try bcferries or Alaska Marine Highway-that's it.

BTW-it's called the Inside Passage

The cruises can be cheaper than the ferries. September is nearing the end of the season and there are usually some deeply discounted cruises. Skyauction.com often has them as do shermans travel and travelzoo.com. Watch out for the return airfare-can often be cheaper to cruise back!

September would be a good time of year to hitch a ride southwards from Alaska to Seattle not the other way. (Fishing boats, tenders and others comming down south for their winter overhaul.)

Most of the cargo ships are containerized and don't take passengers as #1 says. (Sealand)

The Alaska Marine Highway boats would be a definate possibility. Book a long time ahead if you plan to take your vehicle.

It can get pretty rainy but it is a beautiful trip.

Thanks very much folks and apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We've had to change our plans and will be arriving in Dec now anyway.
