Hi there,
My husband and I (both 27yr) are just beginning to look at ways to get back to NZ, and would like to travel by sea (or at least not by air). We are thinking maybe aboard a freighter, or some other way that is either relatively cheap or where we can work for our passage. Neither of us has any experience at all, but we are keen! We have no time limits, and can happily find our way to ports in Europe or home from Aussie. We would prefer not to travel by air, just to try something new and maybe see some things along the way, but as it is all dependent on budget considerations could it be possible to travel as cheaply (or cheaper) as flying?

We would love any suggestions!
Thanks
Andrea

Hi Andrea!

Did you find a boat and you are on your way yet?

Hi Jamie,

No boats, but we have had an exciting change of plans this time. Now we are planning to travel overland to Japan, and take a short flight to Aussie (where we will visit with some family for a while) before finding our way home to NZ. Still considering the options of jumping on a freighter across the ditch. Have moved our time frame a bit too (The old one interfered with the Rugby world cup!).

Have you had any experience traveling between Aussie and NZ by sea?
