My family of four is headed on a year long trip beginning in July. We're starting in Europe. I'm looking at the price of rabies and Japanese b encephalitis vaccines here in the States and am a little overwhelmed. Even if I order the shots myself and administer them to my family members (they're not looking forward to this) it will still cost me around $4000 for both of the series. Ouch. Does anyone know if a US American can get vaccinated in Europe and if it's any cheaper? We'll be…

I currently live in the UAE but have been offered the chance to tour Pakistan with a friend/colleague from work this summer. My friend and her husband are Pakistani-Americans; he lived there for the first 25 years of his life, but she has only been two or three times to visit family there.

They have offered to take us to northern Pakistan to 'see the sights' as it is a 'beautiful country;' however, I am a bit reticent as their kids (13 and 9) are a bit older than mine (6 and 4), and I am unsure…

I really want to take my kids to Europe but my budget is very very tight. They are fine with backpacking and using hostels, buses, whatever we need to do to make it happen. I have been to Europe and I have traveled very light around U.S., Baja, Mexico, and B.C. but it was too unstructured for me to feel ok traveling with the kids this way (such as hitch hiking).

So, what are some creative ways to fly, travel by ground, and stay places if we are willing to be less than comfortable/privileged…

My husband and I are planning a RTW trip with our 5 and 2 year olds. We have both travelled extensively without kids - Africa, S America, NZ, Australia, Thailand, Laos and India and are now looking to try something different but as a family - the question is where?

We want to fit in visiting family in Australia and LA, but I want to combine this with a cultural experience.

The obvious choice for us is Russia and China, but I'm worried this may be too tricky with young children.

Any new ideas…

Just got back from a trip with our baby and here some tips that might be helpful when planning a trip (our baby is 8 months old, just for reference). The stuff you need along is almost the same that you would take if you planned a day out with you baby, except just a little more clothes and food.

• More than anything, don't fuss and don't panic. If your baby feels that what you do is all normal, he maintains calm. If you're worried about everything all the time, so will he.
• have a daypack…

Hi,
I'm planning 3 weeks vacation during next summer with my family. We love camping especially my sons (7 and 10 years). At the beginning we would like to go by car to Switzerland (Zermatt). After 5 days we would like to go somewhere to sea. We love nature, hiking, swimming and definitely not overcrowded. I would like to drive as less as possible from Zermatt to reach such place. I'm thinking about France or Italy or Sardinia or Corsica (We have been in Corsica already, it was perfect :) ).

OK so my question maybe the antithesis to this forum, but its about the most appropriate place to post.

Has anyone left a wife & child for extended periods of weeks or months to travel alone?

I have a longing to go backpacking and see the world, and my wife has no interest at all. She's happy for me to go as I'll always come back, and we're financially secure with a good support network so she wouldn't be alone as such whilst I'm gone.

But is it really viable for me to leave them behind to…

If you could travel anywhere in the world that was appropriate for children (suitable drinking water, low likelihood of contracting a life-threatening disease, low chance for child abduction haha) where would that be, and why? Let's say it's a United States family with 2 travel-savvy children (ages 2 and 5). And we're definitely not the type of family to travel to DisneyWorld for a week or go on a cruise.

My husband and I have a 6 and 8 year old and want to start traveling with them internationally. I love the idea of an eco tourism/volunteer vacation, because we are not into prepackaged, cookie-cutter vacations. Does anyone know of any volunteer opportunities that would allow us to bring our kids, and possibly have them even help? I thought teaching English to kids in other countries or something similar would be an amazing experience that they could partake in.

Thanks so much!
