We are looking to be few weeks in Thailand with our 5 y.o. and would be happy for island suggestions:
We souls like to avoid very tourist-loaded islands and would rather go to some less spoiler locations.
We are looking for calm nice beaches, family-friendly.
Thanks

Thong Nai Pan Yai is a great beach in a quiet part of Koh Phangan. We were there last year with our almost two year old. Very family friendly atmosphere with calm, clear, warm water.

We like Koh Samet for the kids. It's very easy to get to from Bangkok. If you go to the far end of the island you are well away from the part beaches.

Koh Lanta is touristed, not as mega resorts or anything like that, but the beaches are very childfriendly. You can also have a look at the website

www.travelfish.org which I used a lot when I was travelling with my family in SE Asia

we took the children back packing around Thailand last year and our favorite place by far was Ko Phayam , its how we had always imagined a paradise island. it wasn't overrun by tourists, you catch the boat from the pier in Ranong, and have the choice of the slow boat which i think takes approx 2 hours to get to the island or a fast boat which is approx 40 minutes. it does fall within the malaria zones so you will need to consider taking malaria medication.

We stayed in a lovely bungalow at Phayam lodge which is on Aow Yai Beach.
