Hi there,
we last travelled in China (and Tibet) in 1992 and again in 1994, (ah the joys of FEC, money changers, ticket touts and 'tourist prices'). Obviously things have moved on a bit since then, but am unsure as to the latest re train ticket prices. We plan to travel again, this time with our children aged 5, 8 and 9. Is there a child price? if so what age is a 'child'?, or do you pay per (eg) 'hard sleeper'. If so can we buy, say, four tickets and 'top and tail'....are 'tourist children' priced differently, (oh come on, China hasn't changed that much, has it ?!!),
any such info would be v much appreciated,
(though when we're on that 27 hour journey we'll probebly wished we never asked...!)
thanks
Tim and Sandra

Prices depend on height not age in lots of tourist attractions and on buses and trains. It also depends on how cute your kids are and if they can say NI HAO in a very charming way like mine can!
If your kids can share your seat(like on your lap) on buses, you don't pay for them. Some bus companies won't charge you for kids, some will. It really varies hugely. I believe on trains it is under 120 cm is half and under 90 cm is free.
Let me know by PM if you need more help. I've been here in China for years now with two kids and my husband.
cheers from Ruth
