Hi, we will be in Paris in May and June with our 1 and 3 year olds, and although we by no means want to ditch them for better things, we are thinking that it might be nice to give our 3 year old some friends to play with and us some time to explore museums a few times a week. Does anyone have any idea where we could find a preschool or something in Paris that might take a child a few days a week for only a few months this summer?

Thanks!

Dear Gastons,
I would surf on the internet for the "International Schools". These schools tend to have both a local and expat community and I would be surprised if they did not accept children for short term. This wasy the children would not only mingle with local children but ones from all over the world. I attended an 'International school' in Germany and learnt English there. I now live full time in Australia and have more difficulty speaking German. I just cannot say what type of application fee, and regular school fees would apply. Still worth a go.
Good luck.

Google should be a good guide. When I was in Paris, there was a group called "Message" for expat english speaking mothers with very young children (mothers of expat families) that was a useful guide in things toddlers (my daughter went from 6 months to 18 months during our stay there). You could try looking them up as well. I'm sure they would have some good suggestions for you.

In France, there are also public "Halte-Garderies", which are public day-care centres (w/ minimal fees) accepting pre-schoolers for 2 or 3 half-days a week. However, in Paris it might be very difficult to get admitted to one since there is a dearth of day care & they might be only available to "residents". It would depend possibly on the neighbourhood you're living in: it doesn't hurt to enquire. Also, surf & see if FUSAC has a website: they have a newsletter for expats in English distributed in the various English bookstores/cafés in Paris.
