Spanish family adventure in July.

Interest forums / Kids To Go

We have two young kids, one of whom will be 6 years-old and the other 9 months this summer. We have 4 weeks to spare and would like to do something in Spain - probably towards the south (I love Galicia but the weather is a bit too Scottish at times, and with kids it can be quite challenging to while away the wet days). We have visions of a whitewashed Andulasian village in the mountains, or of easy beach access, but would like to spend at least the majority of the time in a largely Spanish-speaking (i.e. not overloaded with expats or holidaymakers) area. I speak some Spanish, and my 6-year-old goes to Saturday morning Spanish classes that I would love to let her put to the test. Our budget is modest, and I would imagine we would need to spend some of it on car hire, or on me going ahead on a solo adventure and bringing our car down from the UK. We would consider spending 1 week in a hotel, as the 6-year-old absolutely loves the whole hotel experience. I had also looked at the possibility of a converted cave house in Orce. Orce has an interesting-sounding pool created by a natural spring that also contains some fish that swim around in it. It is also close to an enticing-sounding mountain lake. But it is difficult to visualise the reality, and whether these attractions are things we would happily wander/drive along to on a daily basis. Access to water and and copious swimming opportunities is a must! Can anyone advise on any ideas/experience they have to mix an immersion experience with something fun for both adults and kids without breaking the bank. Thank-you in advance.

We went to Spain with my then 14 month old (who is now turning 11!)....we took the bus down from Granada to Salobrena and it was a wonderful immersion experience - not alot of tourists (we were there in May). We also stayed away from the tourist district in Granada and our daughter met a little playmate at one of the local restaurants. We did do the touristy Flamenco thing - but I would do it again with my now 7 and 11 year olds who would love the dancing, dresses, etc...(I have two girls).
We loved Spain!

Thank-you. I'll check that out as a possibility. My daughter would also no doubt like the dresses and dancing. How long did you spend in Granada?
