sorry, cutting and pasting from the South Korea branch in case anyone here has relevant info but bypasses the other post

we're travelling to South Korea in either August or October this year, just starting the research and interested in what other visitors' ideal itinerary would be as it's a country I don't know much about.

We'll be in Seoul (staying with friends) for a few days, then would like to see some of South Korea outside of Seoul - debating getting a ferry across to Japan for a bit from Busan - then a final few more days in Seoul before flying home. Looking at max 3 weeks in all.

We're a family of 4 (children will be aged nearly 5 and nearly 2) open to ideas but will obviously be taking things a bit slowly due to the children! Just up for seeing lots and doing lots, meeting people, eating the food etc

Any anecdotal tales?

I know more about Japan than South Korea. If you take the ferry from Busan to Fukuoka, here are some ideas you and your kids may enjoy:

  • Uma no Nakamichi Seaside Park, especially the Marine World aquarium
  • Fukuoka Castle Ruins, especially if this will be your only opportunity to see a Japanese castle
  • Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine
  • Fukuoka Art Museum and/or Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, depending on what's on display at the time and whether or not your kids like art museums

Fukuoka is famous for Hakata ramen, with a broth that includes pork bones. It's tasty.

My daughter, 6 years old then stayed in Seoul by herself with her aunt last August. First word I heard from her over phone is 'Duowoyo' which means very hot. August is very hot and humid in Korea so I think traveling in Oct is better with younger children. She loved 'Lotte world' , the indoor entertainment park in Jamsil even though she was not tall enough for most rides, but still there are plenty of rides for small children.
If you are planing to take a ferry from Busan to Fukuoka, visit Jagalchi fish market in Busan. You will be able to see live fish and interesting shaped sea creature ^^. When I took my daughter there a few years ago, she was excited with fish swimming in the big round flat? basket.
Personally I like to take my daughter to the natural caves. When the weather is hot, it might not a bad idea.

If you decide to go to Korea in August, then you can find many nice beaches in Korea but probably over crowded due to holiday season. Hope it helps. Have a great time in Korea!
