Sarawak Longhouse with a ToddlerInterest forums / Kids To Go
Hi, We will be travelling to Sarawak in June and plan to visit a longhouse. We have a 3 yr old, and I think a day trip would be best. I have tried to search for longhouses, but can't seem to find relevant threads. Not too keen on Anah Rais; are there any other alternatives that are close to Kuching? Has anybody had any experience of visiting a longhouse with a young child? I would be interested in overnight experiences. I don't think the sleeping conditions would be suitable for a young child, but do let me know if you think that I am wrong. Many thanks!
We stayed in a longhouse outside Kuching with our 3 kids (ages 8,8 & 12) last year. Can't remember the name of it but a longhouse is more like a village on stilts with lots of connected houses and lots of families rent our their own or their relatives rooms - we had a regular double bed and completely normal bathroom. It is not like trekking in Thailand where you sleep on bare floors. We stayed 3 days and went trekking through the jungle, swam in waterfalls, learned to use the blow darts and generally had a great time. There was one other Dad there with his two little girls so the kids had fun together. They learned a lot about gathering wild herbs and plants for cooking and medicine. I would recommend it. | 1
