We're venturing off with our 2 kids (2 1/2 and 14 months) and want to travel for a year through Mexico and Belize and where ever else strikes our fancy. Has anyone travelled by RV with kids? Do you know if we can buy/sell a vehicle in Mexico, or do we have to buy it in the US and cross the border? Also, do you know anything about renting them? Thanks for any info!

hi,
Last year I travelled with my daughter for 6 months in central america (she was 10 months to 16 months), and we never had any problems. The locals love children, and were always helpful. I had no problems ever for anything, we used cloth diapers and it was easy to wash them or to take them to laundries, and its very cheap and easy to find disposables and wipes. much cheaper than in north america. It was always easy to find baby sitters to, for a few hours, and hotels were always helpful in accommodating us with the baby. we travelled mostly by bus, it was also no problem, and I found the other passengers took more than their fair share of holding the baby and entertaining her. We travelled also for a while with friends who had RVs, one couple had driven theirs down from canada and the other couple bought theirs in mexico. both had their own pros and cons. bringing a car in you need to pay import fees and give a deposit and get insurance and so on, it can be a bit of a hassle. and buying a local car can mean its easier to get parts locally, but buying a car in the states might be more reliable. the main consideration is that you need to pay inport fees every time you cross a border, but its not such a big deal.
have fun!
