my husband and i are seasoned travellers but since we have had a baby, we have been cautious in planning our trips. the main reason would be that our son has eczema triggered by heat and dustmites and allergic to peanuts, nuts, eggs. we have travelled with him since he was born but have kept the trips within north america. we would like to go to prague for 2 weeks with our son.
questions:
1. suggestions on clean moderate hotels or 1 bedroom apartments?
2. should i bring formula or is milk easily accessible
3. cloth or disposable diapers in prague - which is easily accessible?
4. medical facility availability? my son needs an epi-pen for his allergies and immediate attention if it arises.
thanks in advance for any suggestions, comments you may have. we are looking forward to taking him on all our trips!

We will be in Prague in April with our 13 month old. Although I have not been there yet I do know that Prague will offer you just about all the comforts that you need. I am certain that milk will be readily available as well as pampers and decent medical facilities. If you can wait until we return I will pmyou with my comments.

stilli: thanks for the offer and i will take you up on that! i would love to hear how your 13 month old does in prague. have a great trip and i look forward to your comments!

My husband and I went to Prague with a 7 week old baby. We did get food poisioning in Karl Stein but I think that could happen anywhere.
As far as a flat is concerned, we came in by train with no arrangements and there are always people at the station who offer studio appartments in Prague. We had a really nice room in the centre of the city for four days.
Milk is readily available in any of the shops.
Diapers are available and the easiest way when travelling.
Medical facilities are generally OK and should have everything you require in the event of an emergancy.
Prague is in a country that was part of the old Eastern block but really has all the facilities of the old West.
I would say medical, shops etc would have the same facilities and items as most places in Europe.

Lokk in The Prague Post newspaper as soon as you arrive for up to date listings of english speaking medical facilities, including emergencies, and listings of kids activities including sta morning films at the american cultural centre (they also have a website) and don't miss the play area at Bohemia Bagel- 2 branches one in old town and one in mala strana, play facilities otherwise are pretty much non-existent and it is nice to have a moment off.
We spent a week in Prague last summer with our 2 and 4 year olds. We camped in Troiska.
It was fine for supplies etc but we were taken aback that the usual haven for families of art galleries was strict as hell and we had to CARRY our 2 year old around in case she touched anything. It was a pain. Don't waste your time on that. V. frustrating. Same thing elsewhere in Czech Rep, obviously a cultural difference. we are used to galleries and museums with kid corners, free activities and a warm welcome. Ho hum. But the zoo...a different matter, at the weekend THE place to see Czech family life, which we found very interesting. It's a bargain and a good day out. Enjoy !
