took my 11 yo to s.e.asia for 3 months, last summer . I'm 53 & he's my youngest. I see all kinds of good coming from being an older parent ,my favorite is the NECESSITY of NOT acting your age. I am living the active life of a good father and it forces me to stay fit both mentally & physically. Oh, being a single man traveling w/kids is a TINY subset on the road. I do it every year w/one or more kids, probably China in June....

My youngest is still 2yo and I've already forgotten how to unfold the highchair ;o)

I also post on OT and sometimes here.

I'm 43 with a 14 yr old.

I tried for years to get him to go to Africa with me. I did trips to southern Africa without him. This year I tried to convince him to go to Tanzania, no way.

So after months of talking to him he finally agreed to go to France this year for a few weeks. He's excited and so am I, I've always wanted to see Paris and visit the museums. We'll go sometime in November so as to avoid the crowds. I don't care about the weather at that time. I live in Florida so it'll be nice to have some cool weather.

My son will enjoy 2 weeks of art, history, architecture and who knows what else education. I'll have him do a scrapbook type of report for school.

Why is it that he doesn't want to go to Africa? How odd- my 3 would jump at the chance- so next time you go, if you would like the patter of not so little feet anymore to broaden the experience, do get in touch.

I'll be 50 before my youngest is 11. Does that count?
