My hubby and I are excitedly planning our trip to Russia with our seven month old.

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay with the little one? We are on a budget and would prefer a hostel to a hotel. Otherwise, which area would you suggest?

Any pearls of wisdom from others who have backpacked in Russia with a wee one would be gratefully received!!

Thanks!

See if any of the hostels will accept infants in a private room. There are quite a few hostels and some have private rooms with bathrooms in suite or shared with only one other room. Almost all the hostels are in good locations or near relatively centrally located metro stations.

Backpacking in Russia with an infant is probably no different from traveling elsewhere with a child that age. One exception, I'm not sure how useful a stroller would be because there are lots of under passes which are not ramped. OTOH it depends on how much your 7 month old weighs as a stroller can be useful as a portable place for napping.

Don't expect anyone to have car seats. Some places won't let you enter with young children.

Try searching various blogs about parents with young children in Moscow for ideas of things to do and parks to visit.

Hi,

We've been to Moskow last year with our son (he was 3 years old then). We stayed in Day and Night hostel (booked on booking.com); where we had a private room. It's about 10 minutes walk to the Red Square. I agree with Ruth that there are so many under passes (no other option to cross the road) that a stroller is not very usefull. We had a backpackcarrier which was great.
I don't know with which airline you fly but Aeroflot is just really great (we were nicely surprised!).

have a great time!
