Meeting Kids in Rome/Rome for Kids

Hi, We (Me, 10 yo daughter, 5 yo son) are staying near the Spanish Steps (Rome) in November (10 days). My kids would love to meet local kids. Where could we find them?

I would also love to hear tried and true ideas people used with their kids in Rome and Paris. I want to plan a few key places but let the majority of our time be spent in the moment and getting a feel for the places and people rather than cramming hot spots. I've read the lonely planet kid guide but would really appreciate your ideas or recommendations of good web sites.
