Hi,

Will be moving to Paris this year with baby and toddler. Know the city well but have no experience of being there with kids. Would appreciate any advice on stuff to read or informative websites re. living and having fun in the city with toddlers. Is it possible?!

Also advice from anyone living in Paris with young kids would be great -- how do halte garderies work? Maternelles? What are good outside spaces for young kids there? Are there many playgrounds? What parts of the city do you think would be best to live in? When it comes to renting appartments, is it more difficult to find a place with kids or are owners happy to rent to potentially destructive young ones!? How easy is it getting around on public transport with a stroller -- I imagine the metro is not very stroller friendly...

Is it easy to meet other parents with young kids?

Thanks for all and any pearls of wisdom.

Hi I am living in Paris and I got here the baby. so I have some info that can be quite useful to you. here is the "club" called message. it's organisation with more than 1000 members for pregnant and mothers of paris and suburbs. it's on the web at www.messageparis.org. when you join you can get easily lot of info. to your questions. when you want to give the children to maternelle or haltegarderie normally you go to visit the director of the establishment and they tell you the conditions (especially vaccination is important). halt guarderies some of them are only a few days in the week, some of them onlly part-time...the playgrounds are here around you can find it easily, it's big town, it really depends where you are going to live. to the renting with kids I don't know but I assume yes, it's like that. I was in the 4th month of pregnancy when we got our appt and I was happy they couldn't see it. I had that feeling. stroller in metro, forget it, unless you want to carry it down/upstairs! in that case you need really light one. metro is not children friendly, believe me.
to look for an appartment:www.seloger.fr<BR>when you find the place to live, try to find the townhall of the district. usually all of them are on internet. you go through the www.mairie-paris.fr and look at the possibilities of maternelle and haltguarderies. they have usually section specialised for it.
you can send me pm if you want.
