Anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn Damai Lagoon or Damai beach nr Kuching ? Any idea which one is best for a family with 2 kids aged 2 and 5. Tips on good day trips from there would be great. Also going to KK and Kinabalu National Park. Any ideas on good places to go in either would be great. Any particlular island to visit off KK ? Any accomodation recommendations for Kinabalu Park (there will be 6 of us at that time).

Thanks a lot

A few days on the Kinbatangan River was the highlight of our kids visit to Borneo. If you're going as far as KK, I'd recommend going a little further to Sandakan and/ or Lahad Datu and take in this trip.

You can read about the Kinabatangan trip here or read about our whole time in Borneo here. Don't get the wrong impression of our trip - the Rasa Ria was a vacation from our vacation. We normally stayed in budget accomodation.

Here is where we stayed with our 2 kids (8 and 11)

Jungle: Regency Pelagus Resort in Sarawak (about 5 hours upriver from Sibu) We took their promotional package. Tours to the longhouse and to the river rapids and 2 guided jungle walks (night and day) were included. We got two interconnecting rooms and they had a pool. Price for full board RM 2000

Kuching: We stayed at the Grand Continental Hotel , Central Kuching, walking distance to the sights (don´t miss: museum, river promenade, Hornbill Cafe for dinner) . Triple room with buffet breakfast for RM 160, pool.

KK: Kinabalu Daya Hotel has 1 family room for RM 140. Kids enjoyed to have their own TV. We went to Pulau Mamutik and Pulau Sapi. Sapi was better, but avoid the islands at weekends.

Mt. Kinabalu Park: accommodation is managed by Kinabalu Nature resorts

Have fun
