Anyone travelled to Jordan with kids? I'm going with my three aged 13, 12 and 3 and would appreciate any advice or information. Am planning to visit the Dead Sea, Aqaba, Wadi Rum and Petra. Any advice on camel trekking with a three-year-old? Any advice for a sun-mad bikini-wearing 13-year-old? And what about a three-year-old at Petra - fun exploring or just too hot and tiring?? Any advice appreciated

Well theyll love the dead sea, its lots of fun bobbing about. But be careful the salty water doesnt get in the eyes as it stings. Have a bottle of fresh water close to the shore so if this happens you can wash it out quick smart. Also if any of the kids have any lttle scratches on them the water is going to really sting them.
We did Wadi Rum in two large utes, or 4 x 4. They had a canvas roof and two long bench seats in the back. It was a group of about fifteen of us that the hotel in Petra had arranged. There are plenty of tour operators who do the overnight trip and Im sure they could custom make a trip for you also. We left Petra early on the morning by bus and went to the town near Wadi Rum. From there we were put into the utes and drove about the desert for the day. At night we stopped at a berber campsite that was erected for this company, that was basically a big canvas square tent, with mats onthe ground in the shelter of a hill. There were no toilets or showers. There are no trees to squat behind so those who wanted to be discreet waited for nightfall to walk out into the desert and dig a hole. We ate breakfast and then were taken the short drive to the town, and put on buses going in whichever direction we wanted ie to Petra or Aqaba.
You can hire camels at Petra is you want to entertain the 3 year old. Theres quite a bit of walking in Petra, so be prepared. Theres quite a few food places, toilets, drink stalls and souvenir places inside.

I went to Petra on an organised tour from Egypt and thought it was amazing. Get the kids to watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade before you go! The inside of the treasury is a bit of a let down but the first view through the canyon is fantaxtic. If you or the kids think you might want a carriage ride back to the top arrange it at the top! Once you get to the bottom they charge what they like (or you let them get away with!).
Enjoy!
