Hungary/Romania with 2 year old?

Interest forums / Kids To Go

My little girl is turning 2 in April, so we want to go travelling for 2 or 3 weeks in March before we have to pay full fare for her :) My husband would like to go to Eastern Europe and it seems that Hungary and Romania may have better wheather that time of year than some of the other countries.

Has anyone travelled to this countries with a toddler? Was it enjoyable, easy to find family budget accomodations? Any tips or comments?

Thanks!

Travelmom,
My husband and I lived in Romania 1992-94. Admittedly, that was awhile ago and it was before we had kids. However, we found Romania to be a beautiful country. Stay out of Bucharest as there is really nothing of note to see there. The mountains are full of beautiful old towns such as Sighisoara, Sibiu, Brasov...Lots of trails to hike. The Black Sea coast is not so spectacular. We travelled to Budapest, Hungary a lot - beautiful city and very walkable. There must be family budget accomodations available. Things were quite cheap back when we were there. Have you thought about Prague. We lived there more recently. It's a spectacular city. The Czech and Hungarian countrysides are fairly similar. Hope this helps.

You will not need a big budget to travell in Romania. In the romanian hotels you will not pay accomodation for your little girl:) If you need info about Romania fell free to contact me and i will do my best to help you!

For accommodation check also some of the guest-houses here, many of them have very good conditions and definitely smaller prices comparing to the hotels.
Make a rough itinerary, than try to document a little. Even let us know about the areas you intend to visit, pople on TT board will definitely help you !

All best,
Radu
