Does anyone have any experience with traveling in the Dominican Republic with small children? We are planning a week there and have two children (2 & 5). Is it best to travel by taxi? If so, can the back seats generally accomodate car seats (do the seat belts have shoulder straps?).

Taxis in DR range from very old to new, some with seatbelts, some without. The cars there are just like cars anywhere, so a newer cab will have shoulder belts front and rear, and a really new one might have tethers in the back seat. You will need to insist on cabs with seatbelts.
