Hi,

I live in the UK and am looking for somewhere to go in Europe that will have stuff to keep 3 year old entertained.

We want somewhere which will be warm at end of Sept, have nice culture/things to do and see for me and hubby. Also kiddy friendly stuff such as a zoo/aquarium, parks. Ideally near a beach as well. Also somewhere maybe that you could drive out of the city and go hiking for a day......

Last year we went to Barcelona and that was fantastic. Lots to do and see, a beach, nice walking not too far away, great restaurants. So somewhere similar would be nice. We're probably going to go for a week.

I do like the sound of Dubrovnik, but am not sure that there's lots to do there apart from go on the beach???

thanks
pippa

Dubrovnik is very nice and the end of september just fine, it won't be too hot then. Enough to see in the city itself and you can always make boat exursions (which kids, generaly, like) or visit another places near Dubrovnik - Cavtat is beautiful. Go to Lokrum as weel, beatuful for swimming, no cars, nice for kids to explore and walk around.
As for kids, I think they're easily entertained travelling and don't need real "kiddy"stuf - although there is a little aquarium in Dubrovnik as well and the people love kids overthere, so don't worry. There will always be enough kids playing on the street if your kid wants some company.

We went recently to Venice with our little boy (2,5) and had a lot of fun there - very child friendly destination although you wouldn't think that at the first sight. No cars, so very safe. Boats - great fun. Pizza, pasta, icecream.... Enough hiking possibilities in the area, beautiful little villages and towns. And so much to see!

Another great choice: Lisbon, has everything as well - culture, sun, see, Expo, aquarium, beatuful inlands, little trams and very childfriendly, as people just adore kids!

Shall I go on?

tebita took the words right out of my mouth - Lisbon is great with children.

We also had a great time in Genoa a couple of years ago when our younger one was three. Lots to do in the city which proved one of the most interesting we visited in Italy, a number of day trips into the countryside which I wish we had had time to take (we only spent a few days there on the way to Tuscany) and beautiful coast to the South which we had a wonderful time exploring. Highly recommended!
