Cobblestone Roads and PramsInterest forums / Kids To Go
We are going to Quebec City and wondering if a) there are a lot of Cobblestone streets and b) Should you avoid taking a pram to places with cobblestone streets. Any experiences with prams and cobblestone streets? Other options for a one year old? Is it too much to carry a one year old in a baby backpack all day?
I took my GRACO CITI STROLLER to mexico City. It is 4.5kg and so is very light. Was great that you could just lift whole thing up with baby to go downstairs or over potholes or over the 18inch drop streetcurbs!!! We got over loads of cobblestone roads too. Best was you could wheel it right up to the plane door and no one fussed about it being a big heavey pram. | 1
I liked back packs! I think for a 1 year old they are great. Easier to go more places. Depends on weight of child. More than 25 pounds is harder. I'd recommend practicing with a pack and see how you like it. Investing in a good child carrier pack is worth it, if you use it. A pouch for carrying gear is great. If you are travelling with 2 adults you can take turns. We used a back pack with toddlers when travelling through airports, etc when you have to hurry or didn't want to deal with a dawdling or tired toddler. I found too that with a backpack your hands are free for luggage, handling tickets etc. I continued to use back packs occassionally on hikes with my 4 year old when she'd get tired. (More than 40 pounds though was tough on my knees.) | 2
We went to Quebec with a 6 month old - yes it can be cobbly, but you must take a stroller...otherwise you'll go mad!!! If there are 2 of you you can carry the stroller up steps. | 3
I'm another backpack fan. I used to hate using the stroller on cobbles - bumping about with wheels rattling in all directions. Fun for the kid perhaps but not for the adult! The backpack has the added advantage that the child is seeing things from your eyelevel and will therefore see more. Our kids both loved it. | 4
Hello friends.I took my baby buggy to Quebec City.I took it around the Cobblestone Roads.I didn't experience any problems as it got swiveling wheels. | 5
I've never found Quebec City or Montreal to be baby-friendly - sorry.. we always got sideways looks in restaurants and pedestrians seemed annoyed that they had to share the sidewalk.. | 6
