For the long haul!
My sister wants to visit me down under, but she has a 12 month old. She is bringing a frog, for airports etc. but she needs a softcarrier.
Is there one out there, tried tested and true, which can handle a 12-18month old baby?
Advice would be most appreciated. Takk skål du har! (thanks)

Don't quite know what a "Frog" is, but I love my Maya wrap. It can be used to 35 lbs -- and it is quite perfect for carrying someone 12-18months, and will have use long past that. It also doubles as a makeshift seatbelt of sorts for strapping tots into regular chairs when there are no highchairs to be found. PLus they are really pretty and make a great fashion accesory!
It took me about 1 week to get the hang of wearing it -- but it is like riding a bike. Once you learn, it becomes completley second nature. You can find them on the web at mayawrap.com. There are also lots of other slings out there, but I (& many of my friends) prefer the maya.

I just checked out ergo carrier site - looks just what I think I have been looking for. I noticed they send international - but does anyone know of a stockist around Melbourne (Aust) or any similar Aus products as like to try before buy .. thanks

I used the Biorn carriers. They are good for young babies and face the body or for older babies who want to look around they can face away from the body. You can get them at many baby shops and I think even Myer sell them. I bought mine at a baby shop in Northcote VIC but I am sure I have seen them in other shops.

I agree the Baby bjorn is the highest quality carrier on the market, comfortable for baby and mother, light eweight, extremely versatile used it for 18 months

But 18 months is just the beginning of the toddler stage, she wants something for beyond that, for like Up to two years......
If they can do it in east, why not in the west........
Really liked the Mayawrap.
And another at hippiechick.com, a hip thingy....very functional.
Thanks for the suggestions....babybjorn is not really good for over 18months....

Hi -
Me again, just wanted to add that a really big plus of the maya wrap is it is very easy on mom's back (or dad's). It distributes the weight really well. Personally, I couldn't use the bjorn past about 13 lbs, it was hell on my back. (But I have a bad back to begin with)
I've seen hip wraps that look cool, though i've never tried one. I tried hippiechick and ended up on a porn site. OOPS!!!! don't suppose you have a different address for that?
