We had to give up our bassinet on Lufthansa on the second leg of our Sydney - Zagreb trip last year while baby was already asleep in it. They ran out and someone else had confirmed theirs and was complaining loudly? Worked out well, we had the centre bulkhead seats and placed plenty of blankets on the floor and he slept most of the way. My wife got a voucher from the apologetic flight attendant and the couple who took our bassinet spent the whole time holding their crying baby so the bassinet went unused. It was a 24 hour trip so they slept one leg and were awake the other.

I travelled to Cuba with Air France with a 20 months old baby.
They offered me a cot but it can host a baby who weigths less then 10kg and quite short. The cot is perfect for a 1 year old baby.
Anyway the plane was full so he slept on me and on they way back we checked with the hostess and there was a free seat!
