I’m sure this question has been done to death but our family is traveling to Italy in March and I want to ask for suggestions. I’m so happy that my family is coming to visit us in Europe that I really want it to be special. My family is coming from the US to visit and we’re all going to Italy together. We will have 9 people, 4 of them are kids. One is my toddler and she’s an old champ at traveling but my father is concerned about the 11-16 crowd.
We’ll be in Pisa for one night, Florence for 4 nights and then back in Pisa for our last night. I know the regular tourist stuff because I’ve been there many times and we’ve booked great hotels BUT…I’m wondering about unique suggestions for things to do…great restaurants for a big family…day trips for a cranky teenage boy…Anything?

Don't worry about the restaurant bit - Italians love families, and you'll fit in just fine, and most places are happy to cater for the -more individual - teenage taste. One thing I've noticed about the Mediterranean is that they use the menu as a guide, and then ask for something which isn't there - but it invariably turns up. As to entertaining them in such places as Pisa and Florence, that's a bit tricky. Suggest you try to find a couple of guide books that take you off the regular tourist run.
