Hi! My husband and I are taking a trip from US to Spain via London. My 13 year old sister will be with us for the first half of the trip. My problem has been finding a cheap ticket from Spain (southern part) or Portugal to London-Gatwick. It has to be Gatwick because that is where she catches her flight back to US. I know easyjet or ryanair would be cheapest, but it appears that they don't allow someone 13 to fly alone. Anyone have any experience or suggestions?
Thanks!

TAP, the main Portuguese airline flies from Faro in south portugal to Heathrow - they may do Gatwick as well.

The airlines that tend to let minors fly on their own charge an "unaccompanied child" rate- which will be higher than the normal child rate for obvious reasons- you may think she is fine to travel on her own, but the airline will have legal obligations to her as a minor that they don't have to other passengers. On the whole, this means the larger airlines- can you not go with the airline that is doing her flight to the US? It may be that the maths means it could be cheaper for one of you to accompany her on one of the cut price airlines and turn around and go back on the next flight, but whether you want to save the cash that bad is up to you!
Cheers Em
